Curator’s statement
Oahu feels extremely special to me, not just for its breathtaking beauty but because my best friend has called it home on and off for the past three years. Visiting her has given me a unique window into the island’s hidden gems — secluded hikes, quiet local beaches and the best seafood spots that most tourists miss. What makes Oahu so incredible is its perfect balance of luxury and adventure. You can unwind at world-class resorts or chase thrills on the North Shore, trek through lush trails and discover the island’s many distinct vibes. With its vibrant greens, endless blues and that unmistakable island energy, Oahu is a place that always feels like paradise.

Things to do on Oahu

Adventure
‘Ehukai Pillbox Trail: Tucked away on the North Shore. This short but rewarding hike leads to a set of old military pillboxes, offering panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.
Surf at Waikiki Beach: Rent a board from Moku Hawaii and try to catch a wave at the perfect beginner beach.
Kuliouou Ridge Hike: For those seeking a moderate-to-challenging hike, this trail climbs through lush forests and opens up to jaw-dropping views of the island’s southeastern coastline
Makapu’u Tide pools: A two-for-one adventure! Start with the paved Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail, then venture down the rocky path to discover crystal-clear tide pools surrounded by dramatic cliffs.
Pali Notches/Pali Puka: Not for the faint of heart, these off-the-grid trails feature steep inclines, narrow ridges and strong winds. The reward? Some of the most dramatic views of the Ko’olau mountain range. Be mindful of safety, as these trails are unmaintained and technically off-limits.
Relaxation
Waimañalo Beach: This is what paradise looks like — powdery white sand, turquoise waters and a lush mountain backdrop that rivals any tropical postcard. Unlike Waikiki, this beach is quiet, untouched and mostly frequented by locals.
Lanikai Beach: Famous for its calm, crystal-clear waters and the iconic Mokulua Islands in the distance, Lanikai is one of the most picturesque beaches on Oahu. Get there early — parking is limited, and this beach is a favorite among sunrise seekers.
Makapuu Beach Park: This scenic beach sits below towering cliffs. It is known for its powerful shore break, making it a fantastic place to relax and soak up the dramatic scenery.
Naupaka Spa & Wellness Centre: Located at the Four Seasons Resort in Ko Olina, this spa is pure luxury. Indulge in a Lomi Lomi massage, relax in their outdoor garden oasis or try their signature Hawaiian healing treatments for the ultimate rejuvenation.
Watch surfers at Bonzai Pipeline: One of the most famous surf breaks in the world, Pipeline comes alive in the winter with monstrous waves and pro surfers showcasing their skills. Grab an açaí bowl from a nearby food truck and watch the action from the sand!
Places to eat & drink on Oahu

Sunrise Shack: A North Shore classic that never disappoints. Known for its vibrant smoothie bowls, rich coffee and laid-back surf-town vibes, this roadside gem is the perfect place to fuel up before a beach day. Their blue dream bowl is my fave!
Arvo Coffee: Trendy, minimalist and effortlessly cool — Arvo serves up some of the best coffee, matcha and loaded toasts on the island.
Island Brew Coffeehouse in Hawaii Kai: A cozy local café with stunning waterfront views, perfect for sipping coffee or enjoying brunch along the bay. The beach waves latte is to die for — the perfect amount of sweet, salty and creamy.
Haleiwa bowls: A North Shore must, serving up colorful and refreshing acai bowls
Giovanni's Shrimp Truck: Served up on a no-frills styrofoam plate, their buttery, garlicky shrimp is pure perfection.
Ocean Taste: I crave their torched garlic butter ahi bon way too often. If you’re a poke lover, this is the spot to get fresh, flavorful seafood with a local twist.
Haleiwa Number 7: A hidden gem on the North Shore, this food truck-turned-storefront serves up the best hand rolls I’ve ever had.
The Deck: Unparalleled views of Diamond Head paired with delicious cocktails and modern island cuisine make this the ultimate sunset dining spot.
Monkey Pod: A solid dinner option in Waikiki right on the beach. And yes, the lilikoi mai tais really are that good.
Hau Tree: Set right on the sand, with a trendy ambiance, this place is perfect for sunset. Secure a reservation in advance!
