Curator’s statement
Tasmania is definitely a wonderful island to visit to discover its diverse topography and features. The artsy city of Hobart, coastal beauty of Freycinet, and the rural areas in and around Cradle Mountain are must-sees and deserve a good week or more to explore. Try staying in three areas to truly get a feel for the island, and expect to be wowed by the incredible wildlife all around you. You don't have to look hard to see these unique and adorable creatures—kangaroos and wallabies, wombats and echidnas.

Things to do in Tasmania

MONA (Museum of Old & New Art) in Hobart: This is truly a unique museum, including ancient Egyptian art to very avante garde, modern to obscure installations with a dose of sarcasm! Be sure to allow time to eat on the patio out back and enjoy the free concerts on the lawn. (And then read about the mastermind behind the museum, David Walsh.)
Freycinet National Park: Incredible walk/hikes and a boat ride to Wineglass Bay is a must in this coastal location 3 and a half hours from Hobart.
Cradle Mountain National Park: Walk the 5-mile route around Dove Lake, and the overland track to see the wombats up close and in person.
Save time for wine tasting outside Hobart, including the beautiful views at Caledon Cellar Door.

Mures Upper Deck is excellent for fresh Tasmanian seafood, particularly the blue-eye Trevalla.
Be sure to check out Mary Mary at The Tasman hotel for a cool speakeasy vibe and incredible cocktails.
The wait is worth it at Van Diemans Land Creamery for ice cream after dinner—or anytime, honestly!
