Things to do in New York City

View from Liberty Island

Brooklyn Bridge

By staying in the Financial District, you are a short walk away to the Brooklyn Bridge, which is best experienced by foot. Highly recommend taking your teens at sunset for the best photos followed by happy hour and dinner in the DUMBO area.

New York sightseeing

For fewer crowds, take the first ferry to Liberty Island and the Statue of Liberty. The Crown sells out fast, and the Pedestal is great for even better views of NYC and Manhattan.

Allow time for a relaxing lunch and some down time before continuing the day at the 9/11 Memorial. We made museum reservations at 4 pm and then headed straight to dinner at Grand Central Station. The food court had options for everyone and was adjacent to the entrance for Summit One Vanderbilt.

This was a teen favorite to experience the New York skyline at night!

Biking to Central Park

There is a great bike path along the Hudson River from the Financial District to Central Park.

Stop for lunch, boba, and shopping at Chelsea Market, then spend the afternoon relaxing in Central Park or visiting the American Museum of Natural History.

This is the evening you spend in Times Square, experiencing the subway once again and catching a Broadway show!

Places to eat & drink in New York City

Brooklyn Bridge at sunset

  • Grimaldi’s Pizza: This is the Original Grimaldi’s located near the base of the Brooklyn Bridge, known for their delicious coal-fired pizzas with fresh mozzarella. A teen favorite!

  • Time Out Market: DUMBO food court with rooftop bar and views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. There’s something for everyone here.

  • River Café: Make a reservation here for stunning views and special occasions. This restaurant is in a premier location with views of Manhattan, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty.

  • Chelsea Market: This trendy food hall has a variety of food and dessert options. We ordered from multiple restaurants and shared family style! Open seating is available in the common areas.

  • Pier 57: Along the Hudson River, there are some restaurants on the water, including a couple rooftop dining options. This is a pricier option than the Chelsea Market but worth checking out.

Need to know

  • Reservations are required for many activities and restaurants.

  • Ensure you are purchasing from reputable suppliers, especially for the Statue of Liberty and Broadway shows.
