Advisor - The Best of Stockholm: A 5-Day Itinerary
Curator’s statement

Stockholm is special to me because it has been home for 14 years and counting, and over that time I have come to love its beauty, calm, and understated elegance. I’m drawn to the way the city blends historic charm, waterfront views, and thoughtful Scandinavian design so effortlessly. It feels both cosmopolitan and peaceful, with a rhythm that encourages you to slow down and truly enjoy it. For me, Stockholm is a place that continues to feel inspiring, personal, and unforgettable.

Day 1: Discovering the heart of Stockholm

Begin your first day in Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s historic Old Town, where cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and hidden little corners make it one of the most charming places in the city.

I always recommend starting here because it gives travelers such a beautiful introduction to Stockholm’s history, character, and slower rhythm.

From there, visit the Royal Palace and nearby landmarks, then pause for a long lunch or a classic Swedish fika before continuing with a walk along the waterfront.

My insider tip is not to overschedule this first day—Stockholm reveals itself best when you leave room to wander, take in the scenery, and enjoy the city at a relaxed pace.

Day 2: Design, culture & waterfront calm in Stockholm

For your second day in Stockholm, I recommend spending time on Djurgården, one of my favorite areas in the city for its mix of nature, culture, and beautiful waterfront views.

This is a perfect day to visit the Vasa Museum and then enjoy a slower pace with a walk through the island’s green spaces or along the water, because it gives travelers a chance to experience a quieter and more scenic side of Stockholm.

I also love suggesting a long lunch or fika nearby, followed by time to explore Stockholm’s design-forward shops or another museum depending on your mood and energy.

My insider tip is to keep this day flexible—Stockholm is at its best when you leave room to wander, enjoy the scenery, and balance sightseeing with moments of calm.

Day 3: Stockholm style & fika

Spend your third day enjoying the side of Stockholm that feels especially stylish, relaxed, and easy to savor.

I recommend starting with breakfast or fika, then exploring some of the city’s design-forward neighborhoods and boutiques, where Stockholm’s Scandinavian aesthetic really comes to life.

This is also a great day for a long lunch, a spa moment at your hotel, or a waterfront walk before dinner, because it lets you experience the city at a slower and more personal pace.

My insider tip is to leave room for a few unplanned stops—some of the best memories in Stockholm come from browsing a beautiful shop, lingering over coffee, or simply soaking in the calm atmosphere before you leave.

Day 4: The Stockholm archipelago & a slower side of the city

For your fourth day, I recommend experiencing the Stockholm archipelago, which is one of the most beautiful and memorable parts of being here.

A boat trip offers a different perspective on the city and surrounding islands, and it’s something I always love suggesting because it shows just how connected Stockholm is to nature and the water.

Afterward, keep the rest of the day relaxed with a long lunch, a waterfront walk, or time back in the city for shopping or a hotel spa moment.

My insider tip is to check ferry or boat schedules in advance and dress for the weather, since even in warmer months it can feel cooler on the water—but it is absolutely worth it for the calm, scenery, and sense of escape.

Day 5: A final taste of Stockholm

Spend your last day in Stockholm enjoying the city in a slower, more personal way, with time for the little moments that make it so memorable.

I recommend starting with breakfast or a long fika, then using the rest of the day for any final shopping, a favorite neighborhood walk, or one more museum or waterfront stop depending on your mood.

This is the perfect day to revisit a place you loved earlier in the trip or simply enjoy one last lunch with a view before heading home.

My insider tip is to keep this final day light and flexible—Stockholm is a city that leaves a lasting impression through its calm beauty, and some of the best goodbyes happen when you leave room to simply take it all in.

Need to know

Stockholm is a city that feels best when you don’t rush it. I always recommend leaving time for ferries, waterfront walks, long fika breaks, and unplanned moments, because so much of the city’s charm is found in its slower rhythm. The seasons can shape the experience quite a bit, so it is worth planning with the weather and daylight in mind, especially if you are visiting in winter or during the long summer evenings. Comfortable shoes, layered clothing, and a flexible itinerary will go a long way here—some of the most memorable parts of Stockholm are often the simplest ones.
