Curator’s statement
Segovia is like stepping back in time and into a fairytale. Alcazar de Segovia looks like a dream castle sitting on the edge of a ravine. A Roman aqueduct is the perfect gateway into this charming city.

Things to do in Segovia

Aqueduct
The aqueduct
Walking along the aqueduct, you get a feel for its massive size and the ingenuity of the people that constructed it. It is a marvel and a great place to take photos before walking up the hill to the old town of Segovia.
The Jewish Quarter
Touring the Jewish Quarter inside the walls of Segovia gives you a sense of the history as you walk along the cobblestone streets. Check out the synagogue and all the quaint buildings.
Alcázar de Segovia
Head to Alcázar de Segovia and take a tour of this castle. Inside you will find tapestries, suits of armor for both horse and man, as well as weaponry. View the paintings of the kings and take a tour of the tower. There is so much to do and see in this medieval castle. You get a feel of what it was like to live and work there.
Plaza Mayor
Head to Plaza Mayor and have lunch on a balcony overlooking the square. Segovia is known for its white bean soup called Judiones de la Granja. Or call ahead a request a conchinillo, a roasted suckling pig. It is a dish that Segovia is famous for!
Church bells
One of my favorite things is to listen to the church bells. Make sure to check out the beautiful cathedral. Her tower stands high, and the bells echo so beautifully. It is such an amazing piece of history. The construction began in the 1500s and the cathedral is a centerpiece to Segovia that you don’t want to miss.
Places to eat & drink in Segovia

Plaza Mayor with Segovia Cathedral behind
Restaurante Jose: Serves paella with a bit of a wait time, but it sits right at Plaza Mayor so the time will fly as you view the square.
Jose Maria: Famous for their conchinillo. It is a cozy, authentic-feeling vibe.
Chocolate Hecho en Segovia: Here you can pick up a delightful treat of chocolate, and it is tucked into a charming shop that you will not want to leave.
YUM: You can get specialty coffee or chai here as well as breakfast.
Meson Don Jimeno: Another restaurant that you can get delicious conchinillo. It is located close to Alcazar de Segovia if you get hungry after touring the castle!
Need to know
Segovia is a place that you will always want to return to. It is economical to stay and visit, and it is a very quick train ride from Madrid.
It might not be the easiest place to navigate for people with mobility issues due to the cobblestone streets and medieval architecture.
