Curator’s statement

This part of the East Coast of the United States is rich in culture and history. Always at the forefront of democracy, this itinerary offers everything from nature, to shopping, museums to musicals. As a New England implant, I am proud to share my knowledge of the birthplaces of democracy in the US with the rest of the world.

Where to stay

Day 1: Freedom Trail & local fare

Boston: The Freedom Trail, clam chowder, and quality shopping on Newbury Street. Boston, famous for the tea party and being a landmark in the revolution against the British. It offers a wonderful trail to step through history as well as delicious Italian gastronomy in the North End and Faneuil Hall’s restaurants. I recommend staying by Newbury Street, a vibrant and stylish neighborhood, as well as trying the brunch at Contessa Boston.

Day 2: Whale watching

On your second and last day in Boston, why not go for a cruise in the harbor or do a whale watching excursion? If you are interested in renting a car, a day trip to Cape cod could also be a fantastic way to spend time this corner of New England.

Day 3: New York arrival

When you first arrive in New York, after your train ride, there is one way to take in the sights: look from above. Old school: Top of the rock, or the new kids on the block: the Edge or the summit. You can also catch a show on Broadway or off Broadway and enjoy some dinner in the Flatiron District. Maybe in Eataly or a Michelin-starred Korean restaurant.

Day 4: Ferry & Chinatown

Stay in New York a little longer and explore the World Trade Center fountains and the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum. Alternatively, enjoy a boat ride to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Stop for dinner in Chinatown or Little Italy.

Day 5: Philadelphia

Upon arrival in Philadelphia, settle in your Ritthenhouse Square Hotel. Grab a coffee and pastry at Alchemy Coffee, and wander the streets of the old Town. Take in the history, the Liberty Bell and stop to visit one of the House Museum, the Betsy Ross house on Arch Street, for example. Dinner at the Dandelion Pub. Drinks at Irwin's.

Day 6: Destination DC

Take a quick stroll to see the Love symbol and the Town Hall. Hop on the train in the direction of Washington, DC. This is your last leg on this remarkable journey. On arrival, check in to your central hotel (Dupont or Logan Circle area), and grab some coffee at Dua DC Coffee. Head out to see the White House, Washington Monument, and the Capitol and grab a dinner at Darvish Kitchen for unequaled Persian flavors.

Day 7: Sites & farewell

Use this day to visit at least two museums or to walk the monuments. You must pack a good pair of walking shoes and a portable phone charger as you will have so many photo ops! Grab a well-deserved drink around the U Street corridor or a comedy show at the DC improv Comedy Club.

Need to know

This itinerary is jam-packed with culture and essential sites, stylish eateries and fun evening activities. All these cities offer a range of well located hotels. These destinations are particularly stunning in the Spring, Fall and during the holidays as well.
