Curator’s statement
Cabo San Lucas is one of those places that makes it easy to celebrate, slow down, and, and soak up beauty all in the same trip. I planned a milestone birthday getaway here for my mom, and it became such a meaningful mix of ocean views, good food, tequila tastings, beach time, shopping, laughter and intentional moments together. What I love most about Cabo is that it can feel lively, luxurious, relaxed or adventurous depending on how you shape the trip. With the right planning, it is a destination that works beautifully for birthdays, couples’ escapes, girls’ trips, food lovers, and travelers who want sunshine with a little personality.

Things to do in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

From beach days to boat rides, Cabo is made for travelers who want sunshine with a little adventure.
Spend the day at Playa El Médano
Playa El Médano is one of Cabo’s most popular swimmable beaches, making it a great home base for lounging, swimming, and enjoying a classic beach day. I love it for travelers who want easy access to restaurants, beach rentals, and water activities without feeling too far from the action.
Take a sunset cruise by El Arco
A boat ride around the Arch of Cabo San Lucas is one of the most iconic ways to experience Cabo from the water. I especially recommend going near sunset, when the coastline glows and the evening feels like a true vacation finale.
Book a beach camel ride along the Pacific coast
For something playful and memorable, a camel ride near the beach brings together Cabo’s desert landscape, ocean views, and a little adventure. Many tours also include cultural touches like tequila tastings, food, chocolate-making, or animal encounters, so confirm exactly what is included before booking.
Explore downtown Cabo San Lucas
Downtown Cabo is lively, colorful, and fun for travelers who enjoy shopping, tastings, casual restaurants, and spontaneous stops. Bring a little cash for small vendors, tips, or unexpected experiences while you wander.
Plan a tequila tasting
A tequila tasting is such a fun way to add local flavor to a Cabo trip, especially for groups or couples who enjoy learning while they sip. I loved that this kind of experience can be both relaxed and interactive, with pairings and bottles to bring home if you have room in your checked bag.
Visit Flora Farms
Flora Farms is worth carving out time for if you love beautiful grounds, farm-to-table dining, and a setting that feels tucked away from the busier parts of Cabo. It is a great daytime outing for photos, lunch, shopping, and a slower, prettier change of pace.
Try a local food tasting or street food experience
A guided food tasting is one of my favorite ways to start a Cabo trip because it gets you out of resort mode and into the local flavor right away. It is also a sweet way to meet other travelers, try dishes you may not order on your own, and discover the kind of casual bites you will want to return for later.
Add water activities if the conditions are right
Depending on the beach, season and vendor availability, travelers may find options like paddleboarding, kayaking, snorkeling, jet skiing, parasailing, or water bikes. Always pay attention to local flags and conditions because not every beach in Cabo is swimmable.
Make space for a special occasion night out
Cabo is a wonderful destination for a celebratory dinner, especially if you love music, atmosphere, and a reason to dress up. For birthdays, anniversaries, or girls’ trips, I recommend choosing a restaurant with a fun energy and asking about showtimes or entertainment seating when you reserve.
Places to eat & drink in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Cabo’s food scene is part of the fun, from casual local bites to celebration-worthy dinners.
Mercabo Gourmet Food
Mercabo Gourmet Food is a great choice for easing into Cabo with local bites and a casual, social atmosphere. I love this style of first-night experience because it keeps the evening flexible while still giving the trip a flavorful start.
Casasola Cafe & Brunch
Casasola Cafe & Brunch is a solid brunch stop before a beach day or adventure tour. It works especially well when you want something relaxed and satisfying before heading out for a full day in the sun.
RosaNegra Latin American Cuisine
RosaNegra is a beautiful pick for a celebration dinner, with a stylish atmosphere, music, entertainment, and a grown-up energy that makes the night feel special. Make reservations in advance and ask about timing if you want to be there during the livelier part of the evening.
Las Guacamayas Downtown CSL
Las Guacamayas is a casual downtown stop that fits perfectly into an afternoon of exploring, shopping, and wandering around Cabo San Lucas. It is a good choice when you want local flavor without making the day feel too formal.
Santos Destilados
Santos Destilados is a fun stop for tequila tastings and bottles to bring home. Coffee lovers, or even people who do not usually drink coffee, should keep an eye out for their coffee liqueur if it is available.
Uno Más
Uno Más is a good downtown drinks stop when you want to keep the evening casual and easy. It fits nicely into a night of strolling, people-watching, and letting the Cabo atmosphere lead the way.
Salvatore G’s
Salvatore G’s is a delicious Italian option when you want a break from tacos, seafood, and Mexican flavors during the trip. I like adding a restaurant like this into a Cabo guide because variety matters, especially on longer stays or group trips.
Flora Farms
Flora Farms is more than just a meal—it is a full experience with gardens, seasonal ingredients, and a setting that feels special without being overly fussy. Book ahead when possible, especially during busier travel periods or if you are planning around a celebration.
Beachfront restaurants along Playa El Médano
For a simple beach day, I love keeping lunch easy with a casual beachfront restaurant or palapa-style spot near Playa El Médano. It lets you stay close to the water, enjoy local flavor, and avoid overplanning a day that is meant to feel relaxed.
Need to know
Not every beach in Cabo is swimmable, so choose carefully if getting in the water is important. Playa El Médano is a popular option for swimming, but travelers should still watch beach flags, currents, and local guidance each day.
A rental car can be helpful if you want flexibility for places like Flora Farms, downtown Cabo, beach stops, and, or, and, and quick errands. Travelers who prefer not to drive can still plan this trip well with private transfers, taxis or tours that include hotel pickup.
For special occasion dinners, reserve in advance and ask about entertainment timing, table location and dress code. Cabo has some restaurants that are about the full atmosphere, not just the food, so timing can really shape the experience.
Pack sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, beach sandals or water shoes, comfortable walking shoes, swimsuits and at least one polished dinner outfit. I would also bring cash for tips, small vendors, beach rentals and spontaneous stops downtown.
If you plan to buy tequila, mezcal, or, and, or liqueurs, leave room and weight allowance in your checked luggage. Also confirm customs rules and airline liquid restrictions before packing bottles for the flight home.
Adventure tours can have height, weight, age, mobility or health restrictions. Confirm those details before booking, especially for camel rides, water activities, and excursions involving animals, boats, or off-road transportation.
