Advisor - The Patagonia Honeymoon: A Luxury Escape to the Edge of the World
Curator’s statement

Discover Chile in its spring and summer, when the landscapes are wildly picturesque and the light lingers well past 10 pm. A “winter” honeymoon in Patagonia (for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere) is a quiet rebellion against tradition. It’s an invitation to trade the expected for something expansive, elemental, and unforgettable. Think epic, adventure-filled days paired with deeply restorative, luxury hospitality at the heart of it all.

Things to do in Patagonia, Chile

Tierra Atacama Hotel & Spa (Virtuoso) in the Atacama Desert, Chile overlooking the Andean Mountains

Get grounded in Santiago, Chile

Most couples arrive through Santiago. For a soft landing, check into The Singular (Leading Hotel of the World), an elegant urban hideaway with rooftop views and a warm, old-world sensibility.

Pro tip: Since they have a full-service spa, I like to book my couples a massage on their first day!

Or, for something more design-forward, Hotel Magnolia (Preferred Platinum Hotel) offers a more boutique stay with soul. Two nights here give you just enough time to beat jet lag and feel grounded. Enjoy a couple of pisco sours at golden hour, maybe take a stroll through Lastarria before the real adventure begins!

Eat at Bar Liguria, La Calma by Fredes, or Peumayén Ancestral Food.

Seeking adventure in Torres del Paine National Park

From there, you fly south into Torres del Paine, where the world suddenly expands. Patagonia in early summer is pure poetry. You’ll see breathtaking glacial lakes in impossible shades of turquoise, wildflowers stitched across open plains, and the famous granite towers glowing at sunrise.

Choose the unforgettable Tierra Patagonia Hotel & Spa (Virtuoso), a high-design sculptural lodge that seems to disappear into the steppe. Or settle into Explora Torres del Paine (Virtuoso), the original expedition lodge set on the shores of Lake Pehoé, with expert guides and a menu of thoughtfully curated hikes and journeys each day. For something more intimate and nature-immersive, Patagonia Camp offers luxe yurt-style domes perched above Lake Toro.

Spend your days puma tracking at dawn, hiking beneath serrated peaks, or horseback riding through wild, wind-swept country and ending them in wood-fired hot tubs beneath a sky thick with stars. Umm… yes, please.

Wine tasting in the Colchagua Valley

If you enjoy learning about a new culture through food and wine, let’s plan a jaunt to the Colchagua Valley. A couple nights in wine country will be restorative after the early morning hikes and long days spent exploring in Torres del Paine.

Stay at Clos Apalta Residence (Relais & Châteaux/Virtuoso), a hilltop retreat with private casitas and some of the best wine in South America. VIK (Virtuoso), a hotel of avant-garde architecture set within a vast private reserve, is known for its bold, curated art collection and suites which open to sweeping views of the valley. Or unwind at VIBO Wine Lodge for a boutique, design-forward stay in lofts set directly in the vineyard.

One of my favorite outings here is a day of e-biking through the vineyards for private tastings, followed by an unforgettable lunch at renowned chef Francis Mallmann’s Fuegos de Apalta, where everything is cooked over open flame.

Stargazing in the Atacama Desert

And for those who crave awe-inspiring wonder and a true clean slate, consider the Atacama Desert. The driest desert in the world offers a honeymoon that feels strikingly otherworldly. Watch the sunrise over salt flats, flamingos drifting through rose-colored lagoons, and nights so clear you can count constellations with the naked eye.

Truly! The clarity of the night sky is unparalleled; one of the best places to observe the Milky Way.

Tierra Atacama (Virtuoso) is my favorite for its handcrafted design and slow-living ethos, while Awasi Atacama (Relais & Châteaux) offers private guides and tailor-made excursions for a deeply personal, deeply magical experience.

Need to know

If you’re a couple drawn to design, sensory experiences, and a sense of place, consider Patagonia for an epic and adventurous, yet still luxurious honeymoon.
