Curator’s statement
After visiting Mallorca on my honeymoon, I was instantly captivated by its rugged cliffs, crystal-clear beaches, and boundless opportunities for outdoor adventure. I ended up calling this stunning island home for a year! While many travelers are drawn to its lively cities and nightlife, I’m passionate about showcasing a different side of Mallorca—the serene, adventure-filled corners perfect for those seeking a more nature-focused escape.

Things to do

View near Tossal Verds on the GR221
Hike to hidden caves
One of the most unique hikes I have done is hiking to Sa Cova Tancada near Alcudia. You’ll be rewarded with sweeping vistas before a rather steep scramble down to the entrance to the caves. Make sure to bring a headlamp (no, your iPhone doesn’t count), and prepare to be amazed by the formations inside. One of the shorter trail options can be found here.
Take an ATV tour
If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, an ATV tour around the island is a must. Don’t worry if you’ve never driven one before—the guides provide a quick and easy lesson before leading you through a thrilling mix of on- and off-road trails. Just be sure to hold on tight! To top it off, the adventure ends with a refreshing stop at a secluded cove, where you can cool off with some cliff jumping and snorkeling.
Trek the GR221
The GR221 dry stone route is a path roughly 150 kilometers long connecting towns and villages through the Tramuntana mountains. You can choose to hike part of it as a day adventure, or complete the entire route while staying at refuges along the way. Some of the stages are also well-connected by public transportation. The most scenic segment is from Valldemossa to Deia (7.8 miles, 2350ft elevation) which travels on part of the Archduke’s Path, giving breathtaking views of the Mediterranean.
Go deep-water soloing
If you’re looking to really get out of your comfort zone, Mallorca is the best place in the world to try Deep Water Soloing (DWS). I recommend finding a guide for this activity (such as Rock And Water Mallorca) if you are new to the sport. You will be taken by boat to jaw-dropping sea cliffs and have the opportunity to climb with nothing but the sea underneath you. Not for the faint-hearted!
Explore hidden coves & beaches
There is definitely no shortage of beaches in Mallorca, but if you’re looking for a more serene and private beach experience rather than ones lined with beach chairs and umbrellas, you’re in luck. Some of my favorites include Cala d’Egos near Port d’Andratx, Cala Boquer near Pollenca (especially for goat friends!) and Cala Varques near Porto Cristo. They are not the easiest to access, but you will be rewarded with stunning surroundings.
Rent a kayak
One of my favorite activities is to see the island from the sea. You get the opportunity to see the sea caves up close and enjoy a peaceful day out on the water. I recommend heading to Santanyi and renting a kayak there to get up close and personal with Es Pontas and visit some of the beautiful calas in the area.
Experience canyoning
Picture a fully nature-created obstacle course: water slides, rappels, jumps, and more! There are numerous guided trips available depending on your physical fitness and adventure level. It’s a perfect opportunity to see caves, waterfalls, natural pools, and more! A one-of-a-kind adventure to see the less-explored areas of the island.
Places to eat & drink

View from trail near Deia
Petit Figueret
This is my all time favorite burger restaurant on the island (and I don’t even beef) and it’s so satisfying after a big day outdoors. It’s located in Can Picafort, and the menu consists of regular burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and a vegan burger. They have a beautiful outdoor patio and desserts that are worth saving room for.
Sa Mola 13
This cafe is only open from September through May, but if you happen to be visiting the island, it’s a must-stop. It is frequented by cyclers, making it the perfect stop before a big adventure day. My go to order is their caprese sandwich (I’m drooling just thinking about it) and their desserts are quite popular as well.
Es Roquissar
I have no doubt you’ll find yourself in or near Valldemossa, especially if you’re exploring the mountains. If you’re looking for authentic tapas, this is a great stop. Tucked away from the main streets, Es Roquissar in snugly tucked at the end of an alley with a quaint selection of outdoor tables. You can find their chalkboard menu filled with Spanish classics and modern twists such as croquetas, empanadas, wontons, and gyozas.
Take Japanese Restaurant
Located in an assuming building in Palma, Take provides a chic ambiance and city views while you enjoy a freshly prepared meal. Sometimes after a long day outside, I crave nothing more than a table full of sushi rolls, edamame, and nigiri. The service is incredibly friendly and the cocktails are great too.
Origen
In the heart of downtown, Manacor is a small restaurant with a small menu serving amazing tacos and snacks blending Mexican and Mallorquin flavors. Reservations are highly recommended as they always seem to have a full house. The margaritas are amazing and they also have craft beer (which is uncommon on the island).
Vandal
One of the most unique tapas fusions restaurants in the Santa Catalina neighborhood of Palma. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something exotic and different. They also have an extensive cocktail menu and have drink pairing suggestions with all their menu items.
