Things to do in in Puerto Iguazú, Argentina

Visit Iguazu National Park (Argentina)
Prepare to be amazed by Iguazú National Park. I recommend taking a full-day tour for this adventure. You'll be picked up directly from your hotel and whisked deep into the heart of the Misiones jungle. Once inside the park, you'll have ample time to soak in nature as you explore the extensive network of walkways and trails. Beyond discovering countless falls and cascades, you'll come face-to-face with the awe-inspiring Devil's Throat, the park's largest and most powerful waterfall. I promise you, there's nothing quite like witnessing this gift of nature with your own eyes while feeling the refreshing mist on your skin—it's an experience you'll never forget! This will be an unforgettable day of enjoying the jungle, the subtropical climate, and abundant wildlife: capuchin monkeys, coatis, squirrels, toucans, spotted lizards, caimans, butterflies, and so much more.
Gran Aventura at Iguazu National Park
For those craving an extra dose of excitement, I highly recommend the Gran Aventura tour within the National Park. This exhilarating excursion kicks off with a thrilling 4x4 jungle ride, followed by an incredible boat journey through river rapids. You'll get incredibly close to the most dramatic waterfalls, getting completely drenched in the process! If you're looking for an adrenaline rush, this is definitely the experience for you.
Iguaçu National Park (Brazil)
Today, I suggest crossing the border to see the falls from another incredible perspective by visiting Iguaçu National Park in Brazil. You can do this with a half-day excursion, which will take you across the border and then into the park. In the park, you'll be treated to stunning panoramic views of the falls and will cross walkways that bring you incredibly close to amazing cascades, including the Devil's Throat. Visiting the Brazilian side of the park is essential to truly experiencing and enjoying Iguazú Falls to the fullest.
Helicopter tour (from Brazil)
Another fantastic option for your second day, if you're seeking a bit more adrenaline, is to take a helicopter tour over Iguazú Falls from Brazil. If you choose this, you'll truly discover and appreciate the immense scale and magnitude of the falls from above, in a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
GüiráOga Wildlife Refuge
Visit GüiráOga in Puerto Iguazú, a wildlife rescue center (whose name means "the house of birds" in Guarani), to learn more about the local native fauna, accompanied by a professional guide. This center allows you to observe animals in recovery that will eventually return to their home in the Misiones jungle. It's highly recommended!

Experiencia Argentina
For a truly unique and immersive dining adventure, I highly recommend Experiencia Argentina. This isn’t just a meal—it’s an interactive gastronomic experience centered around a shared table. You'll enjoy premium Argentine beef, fine wines, handcrafted cocktails, and exquisite desserts. I suggest opting for their interactive, seven-course, 17-dish tasting menu. During this experience, you’ll learn how to properly fold an empanada, prepare your own mate, and connect with fellow travelers from around the world—all while an expert team serves you a selection of the best Argentine flavors, perfectly paired with exceptional regional wines. It’s a feast for all your senses!
Aqva Restaurant
Located in Puerto Iguazú’s most exclusive dining area, Aqva Restaurant is a beautiful spot perfect for the whole family. It stands out for its high-quality cuisine, especially its exquisite Misiones regional dishes. On the menu, you’ll find fantastic river fish, various meats, and unique pasta creations like surubí ravioli. I highly recommend trying local specialties such as chipa guazu, sopa paraguaya, and sautéed mandioca. You’ll definitely taste the local flavors here!
La Rueda 1975
La Rueda 1975 is a wonderful family-friendly restaurant with a lovely ambiance. It offers an extensive menu specializing in regional products, including fresh river fish like surubí, dorado, and pacu, as well as delicious grilled meats and homemade pastas. What truly sets this restaurant apart is its impressive wine cellar, boasting over 4,000 bottles! It’s a great spot to enjoy a diverse and high-quality meal.
El Quincho del Tio Querido
If you’re looking for an authentic Argentine grill experience, El Quincho del Tio Querido is the place to go. This typical parrilla offers a fantastic family atmosphere, ideal for savoring classic Argentine meat cuts paired with excellent wines. It often features live shows during dinner, with local bands and tango dancers, creating a lively and engaging evening. Highly recommended if you’re seeking a night out with great energy and superb Argentine asado!
A Piacere Restaurant
For a warm and tranquil evening, I suggest A Piacere Restaurant. This charming restaurant-grill in the city is renowned for its Argentine meat dishes, but it also offers an extensive and high-quality menu. It’s the perfect choice if you’re seeking a relaxed dinner in a cozy setting with delicious food.
Need to know
Weather
Puerto Iguazú, home to the magnificent Iguazu Falls, experiences a humid subtropical climate. This means you can expect generally warm to hot temperatures throughout the year, accompanied by high humidity.
What to pack
Pack for comfort: Comfortable walking shoes are essential, as you’ll be doing a lot of exploring. Wearing layers is always a good strategy for adapting to changing temperatures throughout the day.
Always be prepared for rain: Due to the subtropical climate, rain can occur at any time, even in the “drier” seasons. A light rain poncho or umbrella is always a good idea.
Sun and bugs: Sunscreen, a hat, and insect repellent are highly recommended regardless of the season.
Glossary of local foods from Argentine Mesopotamia
The Argentine Mesopotamia region (comprising the provinces of Misiones, Corrientes, and Entre Ríos) boasts a delicious cuisine, heavily influenced by Guarani culture and various immigration waves. Here’s a glossary of my favorite foods that you should not miss:
Chipá: This is a must-try! These are small rolls or buns made from cassava starch, semi-hard cheese, milk, and eggs. They have a stretchy texture inside and a golden crust outside. They’re perfect for breakfast or a snack, especially when fresh and warm!
Sopa Paraguaya: Despite its name, this is not a liquid soup, but rather a kind of savory, spongy cake made with corn flour, cheese, onion, and milk or whey. It’s baked in the oven and is very flavorful.
River Fish: A cornerstone of Mesopotamian gastronomy. The most common varieties include dorado, surubí, pacú, and boga. They are prepared in various ways: grilled (over embers), fried, in chupín (a stew with vegetables), or a la pizza (topped with tomato sauce and cheese).
Tereré: The cold version of mate—very popular in summer. It’s prepared with yerba mate, but instead of hot water, cold water or fruit juice (lemon, orange, grapefruit) and ice are used. It’s very refreshing!
Planning your trip
I suggest dedicating two to three full days in Puerto Iguazú to comfortably explore both sides of the falls and other local attractions. Contact me to get your perfect itinerary ready!
