Trade the hustle for the harbor. Vinalhaven is a unique Maine gem where "local charm" isn't a catchphrase—it’s the way of life. Lean into the stillness of a commitment-free weekend, or dive headfirst into island activity with lobstering excursions and farm-to-table tours. Day 1: Getting to know Vinalhaven

After you’ve dropped your bags, the best way to see the island is on two wheels. Pedal your way around the loop, making sure to pop into the local boutiques along the way. If you’re thirsty, you can’t go wrong with a beer at the Community Brewery or a casual drink at The Sandbar. Soak in every bit of that view! Once you’ve worked up an appetite, make your way back to the inn to get ready for an unforgettable lobster feast at The Gathering Place.
Day 2: Farm visit & barn dinner

Wake up to a quiet breakfast at the inn, or pedal over to Sea’s Bakery for artisanal coffee and buttery croissants. Spend a slow morning soaking in the local community or finding a hidden quarry for a refreshing dip. By mid-afternoon, head back to the inn to catch the shuttle to Roberts Harbor Farm. This is where you’ll experience the true highlight o the weekend: an intimate, five-course barn dinner curated by Chef Ali Ramee, celebrating the very best of Maine’s seasonal harvest.
Day 3: Vinalhaven’s final curtsy

Start your morning on the patio, overlooking the vast expanse of the Atlantic. Ease into the day as the tide burbles against the shore, then head toward the docks for a quintessential Maine experience. Trust me on this: You’ll find the island’s best lobster roll at Greet’s Eats, a local-favorite food truck just around the corner from the ferry. Enjoy your catch right there on the sun-warmed rocks, or take it to go for a final picnic at the quarries before catching the ferry home.
Need to know
Leave the keys behind. You really don't need a car on the island, and honestly? You’ll miss half the magic if you’re behind a windshield. Biking is the way to go!
Don't gamble on gear. E-bikes are the "golden ticket" of island transport, but they are incredibly scarce once you dock. My advice? Rent your e-bike on the mainland and bring it over on the ferry. You’ll thank me when you’re cruising up those coastal hills!
You don’t need a ferry reservation for yourself or a bike, but you do need a ticket! Purchase a Round Trip passenger ticket and a separate Bicycle/E-bike add-on at the window.
