Curator’s statement
Dripping Springs, Texas, was named The Wedding Capital of Texas in 2015, thanks to its status as home base for more than 35 wedding venues in a 15-mile radius. Chamber of Commerce statistics claim this little town of less than 10,000 people hosts over 1,000 weddings a year. So chances are, if you are here for a wedding, you will want to discover cool things to do in your down time. As a Dripping Springs resident for more than a decade, an Austin-area resident for over 15 years, and a travel specialist, I can recommend some of the best-loved and most underrated local spots for food, entertainment, shopping, and—most notably—the beverage culture that now defines this formerly alcohol-free city. So whether you are attending a big wedding blowout at Camp Lucy or a quiet ceremony by the Pedernales, I’ve got you covered. Let's go!

Things to do in Dripping Springs, Texas

It wasn’t so long ago that Dripping Springs didn’t even have a grocery store. But explosive growth in recent years and more affordable housing than Austin has changed all that. Fortunately, this quiet, picturesque burg has managed to retain its old-fashioned country charm.
Where to shop
Belterra Village: Restaurants ranging in flavors from an IHOP to Thai food, many fast food options, a few shops, and a movie theater.
Wimberley: The quaint town of Wimberley is a great place to purchase souvenirs from your visit, or just window shop!
Historic Mercer Street: Not many shops here, and it’s really just about a block long, but this is the beating heart of Dripping Springs. You will find a handful of stores, Mazama Coffee, and even a music venue called Hudson’s.
Hill Country Galleria: This is a thoroughly modern outdoor mall located in nearby Bee Cave, with a Dillard’s, Whole Foods, Barnes and Noble, and an outdoor multi-use stage that transforms into a skating rink in the winter.
Where to learn local history
The Texas Ranch: LBJ’s Western White House, much of which is in its original 1960s condition, is a must-see.
LBJ Library: On the University of Texas campus, the official library of our colorful 36th president.
Luckenbach, Texas: A postage stamp-sized town made forever famous in the Willie Nelson song. He actually lives right up the road a few miles away in Spicewood.
Fredericksberg: A German-influenced town that has become a wine hub and tourism destination.
Where to get some nature
Enchanted Rock: One of the best places to hike in the area.
Hamilton Pool: In peak summer months, you will need to make a reservation.
Reimers Ranch: Wide-open spaces along the Pedernales River and a cool observatory for the astronomically inclined.
