Property Spotlight: Hotel Aigua Blava - Costa Brava
Curator’s statement

In July 2023, I did a site inspection of the Hotel Aigua Blava located in Begur, one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Costa Brava. This property is situated in one of the many coves within the area of Badia de Aiguablava, a Catalonian privileged area. This property is cozy - perfect for a couple getaway or a family with small children. The sales contact welcomed me like family, in spite of it being the height of the busy season.

The Scene

This intimate property and the surrounding area is reminiscent of a mini Amalfi Coast, with its soaring cliffs and mountain side steps to the public beaches below. The hotel does mesh well with areas’ private residences and a private small marina. Hotel Aiqua Blava also abuts the Camino de Ronda, a popular coastal hiking trail that runs from Blanes (the official beginning of Costa Brava) to the border of France. The interior of the hotel is simple, clean, light and bright. The center of all the action happens on the Terrace Restaurant which has panoramic views of the bay and Sea.

Getting there

The hotel is about 1.5 hours drive from Barcelona and 50 minutes from Girona. There is also boat mooring access within the cove itself.

Rooms

There are 80 guest rooms (Double, Junior Suites or Family Suites) and several variations of apartments all with garden or seaside views. All have balconies. Recent renovation to the guest rooms which are clean, simple, bright and comfortable. Some guest rooms have direct beach access as well.

There are two reservation variations: Bed & Breakfast or Half Board

Restaurants and Bars

The property has three main areas on property.

  • The Terrace Restaurant, this is where the three main meals are served generally speaking. The views are tremendous and the service exquisite.

  • "La Rocella" is situated near the pool under terraces of ivy and Bougainvillea and has an Al Fresco feel.

  • The Restaurant, this is located next to the Terrace area and is inside, offers sea views through stucco arch ways, definitely Instagram worthy.
There is also a pub style bar area where guests can enjoy an after dinner drink and socialization.

  • The outdoor patio located between the lobby and pool area maintains an element of connection between the two spaces and has a more casual setting with seating and umbrellas; perfect to grab a coffee and read a book while the Mediterranean breeze waves on through.

Amenities

  • Ping Pong Tables

  • Badminton

  • Tennis Court

  • Swimming Pool

  • Beauty Salon

  • Small gym

  • Babysitting Service on property

  • The property does not have a shuttle service on site. If a guest would like to go to Pals or Begur city center or another area within Costa Brava, the hotel can arrange a taxi or car service.

  • Parking is available but limited

Activities

  • All activities such as boat rental, bike rental, car rental, paddle boarding, tours are outsourced so advanced arrangement is required.

Sea and seaside
View of sea and seaside

I recommend Hotel Aigua Blava to my clients looking for a romantic, cozy couple's getaway or an anniversary celebration. It would also be wonderful for a family with small children looking for a short, simple vacation where they can relax and slow down.
