BARCELONA: MUSEO PICASSO and FUNDACIó MIRÓ
The current exhibition (20/10/2023-25/02/2024) is a joint between both Museums: The Museum Picasso in the Born Neighbourhood and the Fundació Miró in Montjuic. The combined exhibition shows the friendship that they maintained and their artistic relationship. You can buy a combined ticket to visit both museums or just a single ticket to one of them. The Picasso building in Barcelona were five bourgeois palaces, built in the Catalan civil gothic style in the 13th-15th centuries. It´s really worthy to visit it, as well as Fundació Miró, which is a building designed in Avant-garde style by Josep Lluís Sert. The Fundació has amaaaaaazing views of Barcelona from the Montjuic Mountain Hills and it´s reachable easily from the city center.
HOTEL CLARIS in Eixample, very close to the Gaudí buildings La Pedrera and Casa Batlló is my artsy hotel recommendation. A 5-stars hotel full of elegance and art, hosts an incredible private collection from the Pre-Columbian, the Roman Empire, and Egyptian culture, among others.
PRO TIP: Very close to the Derby Hotel is located in the Egyptian Museum of Barcelona, with the largest private collection of Egyptian art in Europe on display to the public.
NEW YORK CITY. MOMA
Picasso in Fontainebleau is exhibited through Feb 17, 2024. Among other masterpieces that Picasso has created in his studio in his French village in the summer 1921, there are two monumental paintings: ¨Three Women at the Spring¨and ¨Three Musicians¨.
My hotel recommendation for such a venue is THE WHITBY HOTEL. Located in Midtown, it´s the perfect hotel to rest around contemporary art and design.
MADRID.MUSEO REINA SOFÍA
In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of his death, the Art Center is hosting "The Exhibition Picasso 1906: The Turning Point" from November 15, 2023, to March 4, 2024. In addition to this curated exhibition, visitors can appreciate Picasso's masterpiece, "El Guernica," a powerful anti-war painting. Furthermore, it's worth noting that the art collection at "The Reina Sofía" is both vast and delicate.
The Rosewood Villa Magna Hotel is an elegant establishment strategically located in the Art Neighbourhood, close to the Museo del Prado and The Reina Sofía Museum. Enjoy a leisurely stroll in El Retiro Park and indulge in some shopping in the chic Castellana Neighbourhood.
Need to know
SHOPPING
Instead of listing the incredible small businesses we can find in these cities, I would like to highlight in this case the museum stores: In the MOMA store you can find many pieces of contemporary design, and both the Picasso Museum store and the Miró Foundation in Barcelona offer a good opportunity to purchase quality souvenirs, including posters or lithographs to decorate and remember these precious temples of art. I have two gorgeous Miró images in my apartment of Barcelona!
