The Perfect Belize Combo: Beach Bliss and Rainforest Adventures
Curator’s statement

When Alaska Airlines created a non-stop route from Seattle to Belize, our family was on the next flight! We’ve spent many winter and spring breaks escaping to the sunshine and palm trees in Hawai'i and Mexico, so it was any travelers dream to visit a new country. Belize did not disappoint! We loved the range of relaxing beach time, ocean excursions and rainforest adventures. Plus, the food was top notch and celiac friendly!

Ambergris Caye: Hop on a 15 minute puddle jumper flight from Belize International Airport with turquoise views that will leave you speechless. Ambergris Caye is an amazing island for its stunning natural beauty, boasting pristine white sandy beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters ideal for snorkeling and diving adventures. Additionally, Ambergris Caye's laid-back atmosphere, charming local culture and delicious cuisine make it a truly unforgettable destination for travelers seeking relaxation and adventure alike.

Secret Beach. Embark on a bumpy golf cart ride to the (not so) Secret Beach, where kids can splash and play on a giant inflatable water park. Don't miss the unique experience of dining at a picnic table right in the ocean. While there are many restaurants to choose from, Secret Beach Water Park Bar & Grill is the closest to the action for the kiddos.

Snorkeling at Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley: Immerse yourself in the vibrant underwater world of colorful, tropical fish, and experience the thrill of swimming alongside sharks.

Rainforest Zip Lining and Cave Tubing at Nohoch Che’en: Get your adrenaline pumping as you zip through the Belizean Forest canopy, then unwind with a relaxing glide on inner tubes through stunning cave formations. You can join a full day tour from Ambergris, or you can choose to spend a night or two in San Ignacio and also visit ancient ruins as well.

The Truck Stop: Time to dine and play! Enjoy delicious “food-truck style” meals, which means a lot of options for the whole family. Play yard games like cornhole, and let the kids splash in the pool while you enjoy a cocktail at a table next to the pool. Catch a family-themed outdoor movie on Saturdays or a more adult-oriented one on Wednesdays.

Belize Chocolate Company: Indulge your sweet tooth with a hands-on chocolate-making class at Belize Chocolate Company. Or just stop by their candy shop to try the delectable chocolate-covered honeycomb!

Purple Pelican: Treat yourself to a memorable dining experience at the Purple Pelican, where you can savor the best Jerk Pork against a backdrop of breathtaking pink and purple hues. Remember to book your table in advance and request one by the water for the ultimate ambiance.

Need to Know

Belize has become quite popular, so it’s important to book your hotels early, especially if you want to spend a few nights in the rainforest for jungle adventures and visiting ancient ruins. Also, a majority of hotels don’t have sand beaches, and instead you access the ocean from a dock. If you want that true beach experience of walking from sand into water, make sure you find the right hotel, or email me for help!
