Best Beaches in Puglia, Southern Italy

Porto Ghiacciolo

Nestled in the heart of Puglia, Porto Ghiacciolo stands out as my absolute favorite beach spot. Picture-perfect with its crystal-clear waters, golden sands, and a rugged charm accentuated by the backdrop of an abandoned castle. Whether you're in the mood for lounging on rented beds at the Lido, unwinding at the small free beach, or enjoying a laid-back meal at the waterfront restaurant/bar, this beach has something for everyone.

Calette di Torre Cintola

Yet another one of my favorites, this beach boasts a rugged and picturesque landscape, adorned with ruins dating back to the 16th century. It's a well-kept secret among locals, making it the ultimate hideaway from large crowds. While there's not a grain of sand in sight, you can still lounge in comfort by renting daybeds at the Baia Luna Beach Club for just a few euros.

I Faraglioni di Sant’Andrea

The perfect spot for wild beach lovers, this beach is really a breathtaking cliffside that offers panoramic views of the rugged coastline and mesmerizing turquoise waters. During my visit on a Saturday, I was pleasantly surprised to discover ample space and minimal crowds. It's an ideal location for adventurous souls keen on cliff jumping, with plenty of rocky surfaces to lay your towel on and soak in the sun.

Poetry Cave - "Grotta della Poesia"

Situated in Roca Vecchia, this renowned waterhole and natural pool offer an exhilarating opportunity for cliff jumping and picturesque photo opportunities. Admission for the entire day is just 3 euros, making it an affordable and exciting destination for all.

Roca Vecchia

This beach holds significant archaeological value, adorned with 16th-century caves and a watchtower. If rocky terrain isn't your go-to beach setting, I highly suggest strolling around this area regardless to uncover the hidden caves and scenic viewpoints it has to offer. Within this natural park, you'll find the Grotta della Poesia mentioned above.

Baia dei Turchi

This secluded sandy beach boasts pristine turquoise waters, creating a natural swimming pool amidst wooded surroundings. The nearest parking lot is a 30-minute walk away and costs five euros, but on occasion, you'll find a complimentary shuttle service for direct transportation to the beach. Come prepared since there are no services or bathrooms, but bars with panini and drinks pop up throughout the summer.

Cala dell'Acquaviva

A popular local rock beach, with cold water coming from the nearby natural spring. There's a small bar with showers and services, and the parking above the beach is completely free.

Tricase Porto

Tricase Porto is a small port town bordering the Adriatic Sea. It's a beloved spot among locals, making it a haven away from the tourist crowds. If you venture to the end of the beach, you'll stumble upon a small passage in the rocks to your left. Here lies a "secret" rocky beach, with a charming kiosk of local snacks. Tricase Porto is close to Marina Serra, so I recommend spending half a day at each location.

Punta della Suina

Lido Punta della Suina is a charming beach complete with sunbeds, umbrellas, and hidden coves. From the terrace bar, visitors can enjoy a splendid panoramic view of the entire inlet, Gallipoli city, Sant'Andrea island with its lighthouse, and the picturesque Torre del Pizzo. In the evening, you'll see a beautiful sunset painting the sky in breathtaking hues.

Punta Prosciutto

The sea in Punta Prosciutto is shallow, making it perfect for a quick dip, and especially safe for kids. Here, untouched nature, the sea, and stunning beaches converge to offer a truly unforgettable panorama. Moreover, Punta Prosciutto falls within the Marine Protected Area of Porto Cesareo, ensuring the preservation and enhancement of its pristine environment.
