Curator’s statement

For decades Baja California has been an adventurer's dream destination. Down every dusty, unmarked road that spread across the peninsula seemed to be an undiscovered utopia, perfect for surfing, camping, and star gazing. Today, the small town of Todos Santos still holds onto that sense of wonder and excitement of just being discovered. But now with a few more amenities and nice hotels. Just an hour north of shiny, touristy Cabo San Lucas, Todos Santos is the perfect place to check into your room and feel like you’re on your own stretch of private beach.

Things to do in Todos Santos, Mexico

  • Espiritu Santo Island Tour - Charter a boat and head out to the island of Espiritu Santo, a nature reserve with crystal clear waters teaming with fish, whale sharks, and sea lions. Depending on the time of year, you’ll be getting up close and personal with those latter two.

  • Walk the town - Downtown Todos Santos consists of about a 4-block stretch of main street, but a lot is packed into those blocks. Find everything from handmade crafts and souvenirs to high end clothing boutiques and a few bars for happy hour.

  • Sunset cruise - You’ll need to back down to Cabo for this, but a sunset cruise either into the Gulf of Mexico or on the ocean side is a can’t-miss.

  • Yoga & surf lessons - The beach is a perfect place to do a little Shavasana (yes, I know that's just mostly lying on your back). Local guides abound for both beachside yoga and getting a surf lesson in.

  • Hiking - Hit the coast trails. One of the best hikes is Punta Lobos, which winds around a stunning little bay. Hike down to the tiny beach and soak your feet in the Pacific ocean.

  • Day Trips: Spend a day on the otherside of the peninsula in La Paz - which is where you'll catch the boats for Espiritu Santo anyway. Or head down south for a nightlife in Cabo San Lucas.

  • Jazamango - Renowned local chef Javier Placencia shows you just how abundant his hometown is with a menu of locally sourced fare. Be ready for fresh veggies from his garden and perfectly cooked steaks in a beautifully rustic indoor/outdoor setting.

  • Coyote - Seasonal seafood-forward cuisine attached to the El Perdido hotel. The outdoor atmosphere is almost as good as the Coyote Ceviche.

  • The Green Room - You can’t stay beachside in Mexico and not eat right on the sand. Time your meal at this ocean-front restaurant for a sunset toast that’ll take your breath away.

  • Oysteria - Situated at the end of the main drag of Todos Santos in a new shopping collective called Santa Terra, the fun, the elevated atmosphere of this oyster bar is the perfect contrast to a day of outdoor adventuring.

  • Hire a private chef - Want to eat in? Todos Santos has become a hotbed of local and foreign chef looking to share their culinary talents and knowledge of local ingredients with visitors. Ask your hotel for recommendations, or ask around for my personal favorite, Chef Jeanna DeMarco.
