Curator’s statement

Barcelona holds a special place in my heart, not only for its stunning centuries-old architecture and rich cultural heritage but also for the unforgettable culinary experiences it offers. I'll never forget the sheer perfection of every bite at Cocina de Hermanos Torres, a 3-star Michelin restaurant where I had the best meal of my life, an experience that nothing has compared to since. But it's not just about one extraordinary dining experience. Barcelona's food scene, from tantalizing inexpensive tapas to exquisite fine dining, never fails to impress, offering a diverse array of flavors and culinary delights that cater to every palate.

Beyond the culinary delights, Barcelona boasts a vibrant nightlife scene, dotted with one-of-a-kind speakeasies hidden in the labyrinthine streets, each offering a unique ambiance and signature cocktails that are sure to enchant even the most discerning of drinkers. Moreover, the city's artistic heritage is simply awe-inspiring, from the whimsical creations of Antoni Gaudí, reminiscent of childhood memories watching the Cheetah Girls, to the contemporary masterpieces housed at the MOCO museum, showcasing works by Basquiat, Warhol, and Haring to name a few.

Exploring Barcelona is a sensory journey, where you can soak up the Mediterranean sun on a rented boat for a half-day excursion along the stunning coastline, or dive deep into Spanish culinary traditions with a hands-on dance or cooking class. And when it comes to accommodations, I found Casa Bonay to be a quaint boutique hotel that perfectly captures the essence of Barcelona's cosmopolitan and effortlessly chic vibe.

In Barcelona, the city's cosmopolitan atmosphere is palpable, with its streets bustling with stylish locals who exude an air of effortless cool. Whether strolling along the iconic avenues or discovering hidden gems tucked away in the city's charming neighborhoods, Barcelona never fails to captivate with its blend of culture, cuisine and cosmopolitan flair.

Things to do in Barcelona

Park Guell boasts surreal architecture, colorful mosaics, and lush gardens.

Barcelona boasts a plethora of iconic sights that are simply unmissable. From the awe-inspiring Sagrada Familia, Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece, to the vibrant mosaic wonderland of Park Güell, every corner of the city tells a story of architectural brilliance. Don't forget to wander through the surreal facades of Casa Milà and Casa Batlló, each a testament to Gaudí's unique vision. And for a lesser-known gem, explore the colorful Casa Vicens, a hidden Gaudí treasure waiting to be discovered.

You can also dive into Barcelona's rich cultural tapestry by exploring its world-class museums. Marvel at contemporary art at MACBA, where cutting-edge exhibits push boundaries and challenge perspectives. Delve into the mind of Picasso at the Picasso Museum, home to one of the most extensive collections of his works, providing insight into the evolution of his genius. For a more eclectic experience, MOCO offers a dynamic fusion of modern and contemporary art, showcasing emerging talents alongside established masters.

Elevate your Barcelona experience by joining a cooking class, a delicious immersion into the heart of Catalan cuisine. These classes offer a hands-on opportunity to learn the secrets of Spanish gastronomy. Picture yourself sizzling up a storm as you master the art of paella, all while forging new friendships with fellow food enthusiasts. It's not just about the food. It's about the camaraderie and memories created around the kitchen table.

Don't pass up on taking to the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean by renting a boat for a half-day excursion. Sail along the stunning coastline, soaking in panoramic views of Barcelona's iconic skyline from a unique vantage point. Whether you're seeking a romantic sunset cruise or an adventurous snorkeling expedition, a boat rental offers the perfect opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and bask in the tranquility of the sea. So grab your sunscreen and go.

Places to eat & drink in Barcelona

Menu to order Tapas at Bastaix.

When it comes to hidden gems, Barcelona's speakeasies reign supreme. Paradiso stands out as a must-visit hotspot, consistently ranked among the world's best bars. Its chic ambiance and impeccable cocktails make it worth the wait, although be prepared for lines that can potentially stretch for hours. However, savvy travelers know the secret: while waiting for Paradiso, sneak over to Bastaix, a tapas haven conveniently located nearby. Make a reservation in advance at Bastaix, indulge in a delectable meal and then head over to Paradiso for an unforgettable evening of cocktails and ambiance. If you're still thirsty for more, venture into the depths of Monk and Dry Martini for further speakeasy delights.

In Barcelona, eating isn't just a necessity — it's an art form. Prepare your taste buds for a culinary journey of epic proportions. Bastaix (discussed above), renowned for its tapas, tops the list for its fusion of flavors and cozy atmosphere. For seaside dining with a view, Amante and Es Torrent offer fresh seafood delights that will tantalize your senses. Craving French cuisine? Look no further than Jacqueline, where every dish is a masterpiece. But for the ultimate culinary experience, secure a reservation at Cocina Hermanos Torres well in advance. This gastronomic gem promises a dining experience like no other, where innovation meets tradition in every bite. Trust me, the effort to secure a table will be worth every savory moment. We even snagged a photo with THE Hermanos Torres at the end of our meal.
