Curator’s statement
Welcome to my home town of Galveston, TX! I am delighted you have stopped by to visit my guide as I give you a little insight on this hidden Texas gem that my family has called home since 1890. My relatives were Irish immigrants who survived the 1900 Storm and wading through the waters with all 10 kids to higher grounds. You can walk around the island and see signs on homes that also have plaques to show they are "Survivors of the 1900 Storm." If you are ever finding yourself heading to the island for a vacation at the beach, visiting for one of the annual festivals throughout the year or taking a cruise out of the oldest port west of New Orleans, please reach out to me and let me know how I can help make your stay even more enjoyable. (Many Houstonians come to the island for a day at the beaches, or to visit The Strand for live music, entertainment and shopping.)

Things to do in Galveston, Texas
Galveston Beach: Over 30 miles of beachfront extending out of the Gulf of Mexico. Bring your family and friends to enjoy fun in the sun nearly all year long.
The Strand: Located in the historic downtown Galveston near the cruise ports, you will find the hustle and bustle of great restaurants, bars, shops and plenty of entertainment.
The trolley: Jump on the trolley and take a tour around the tsland.
The Grand 1894 Opera House: Just as the names describes, this historical entertainment venue attracts many living legends that you are sure to know. Check their website for the line-up.
Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa and Convention Center: Take the family to ride the Colonel Paddlewheel, spend the day on Palm Beach, visit the aquarium and rainforest pyramids or watch an educational movie on the IMAX screen for a full day of educational and entertainment for the family.
Pleasure Pier: Located on the pier extending over the Gulf of Mexico, this amusement park will for sure entertain your family and friends.
Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston: Bring the family and enjoy the ever-so popular waterpark located on the island. Slides, rides and thrills for a full-day of family fun.
Places to eat & drink in Galveston, Texas
Rudy & Pacos: Dress up in your best, because you will have a night of the freshest foods, great drinks and first-class service when you visit one of the most popular establishments on Galveston Island.
Shark Shack: Located on The Strand, there isn't anything on this menu that you can go wrong with. You will see some traditional items, but served with a twist.
