Vancouver, British Columbia, is a truly special place. It's a place that is easy to get to and impossible to forget. You'll leave restored and refreshed by the fresh salty air, invigorating snow-capped mountains and friendly people. Vancouver's history is rooted in indigenous cultures with the Coast Salish people residing in the area for thousands of years and it's a great place for solo travel, girls/guys weekends (hello bachelor/bachelorette parties) and families alike. It also makes an excellent place for multi-gen family vacations. Here are the best places to stay in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Things to do in Vancouver

An aerial view of a city with tall buildings and beach.

Vancouver is a vibrant and diverse city on the western coast of Canada. Just three hours north of Seattle, Washington, and home to a large international airport, Vancouver is a compelling mix of natural beauty, cultural richness and outdoor activities. Surrounded by mountains and the Pacific Ocean, visitors can enjoy panoramic views from locations like Stanley Park (don’t miss the totem poles!), Grouse Mountain and the Vancouver Seawall. It’s an absolute paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, whether it’s skiing, hiking, whale watching or my favorite, kayaking, there are endless activities for everyone at every level of ability.

Vancouver’s food scene is as unique as it’s multicultural population, full of fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Foodies will be in heaven between a number of Michelin-starred restaurants, the Granville Market, Richmond Night Market and British Columbia’s award-winning wine region. If you enjoy wine, I highly recommend visiting the Okanagan wine region during your trip to British Columbia. I’d also be remiss to not mention my favorite breakfast spot in North America, Café Medina (seriously folks- queue up before they open and don’t forget the mini waffles). With so much to do, you’ll want the perfect place to relax at the end of each day, and I’ve got the ultimate list for you.

Rosewood Hotel Georgia

An iconic hotel that seamlessly blends historic charm with modern elegance. The Rosewood brand is renowned for it’s exceptional service and attention to detail- it’s a favored choice for discerning travelers seeking a refined and memorable stay in the heart of Vancouver. I particularly love the spa and heated saltwater pool, and there’s no better way to relax after a day of outdoor activities than cocktails in the cozy 1927 Lounge.

Fairmont Pacific Rim

A pinnacle of contemporary luxury, with a stunning waterfront location and panoramic views of the city and mountains. The Fairmont Pacific Rim boasts impeccable service and upscale amenities, including the absolutely gorgeous Willow Stream Spa and rooftop pool. It’s also a prime location for the Vancouver Convention Center and Vancouver Christmas Market.

Wedgewood Hotel & Spa

This luxurious boutique hotel is renowned for its European-inspired charm and elegance. With an intimate and sophisticated ambiance, the hotel provides guests with personalized service and attention to detail. It has an award-winning restaurant, Bacchus, a tranquil spa (don’t miss the eucalyptus steam room!) and has been family-owned and operated for 40 years. Even though you’re in the heart of downtown, something about this hotel feels like an intimate secret.

The Douglas

The Douglas Hotel is part of the Parq Vancouver complex and offers a stylish and contemporary atmosphere, catering to both business and leisure travelers. With proximity to the vibrant Yaletown neighborhood and a range of on-site dining options including a rooftop lounge and urban park, the Douglas provides a convenient and chic stay in the heart of the city.

Shangri-La Vancouver

Nestled in the tallest building in Vancouver, this luxurious and iconic property offers a blend of Asian-inspired elegance and contemporary sophistication. Known for its opulent accommodations, spacious rooms, flawless service and grand views of the city and mountains, this hotel is a true retreat in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

Day Trips

Vancouver is a destination in its own right, but also a great jumping off point for a myriad of other destinations, like Vancouver Island (visit Victoria and Tofino), Whistler, Banff National Park, the Okanagan Wine Region or even up the inside passage on an Alaskan cruise.
