Curator’s statement

Whistler, a town two hours north of Vancouver, British Columbia, is home to Whistler Blackcomb—one of the largest ski resorts in North America—making it a popular ski destination for people all over the world. The center of Whistler is a magical chalet-style pedestrian village at the base of Blackcomb and Whistler mountains - the après-ski views are unbelievable! Even if skiing isn't your thing, there are enough restaurants and bars to pass the time during a long weekend stay.

Day 1: Arrive in Vancouver and take the bus to Whistler

The closest airport to Whistler is Vancouver (YVR), which is about a two-hour ride. The Whistler shuttle is the best way to travel from YVR to Whistler. Service operates regularly throughout the day and drops off at any private address in Whistler Village, as well as most hotels and condos, with no additional charge.

You're likely to arrive in Whistler midday or in the evening due to the long travel day. After you check in to your hotel, have dinner at Sushi Village, a lively staple in town. I recommend the Super Hiro and Double Hawaiian Rolls.

After dinner, head to the famous Garfinkel's for drinks and dancing. This is the main club in Whistler with parties that go well into the night - the perfect end to your first night in Whistler!

Day 2: Ski Day 1

Grab a big breakfast before you head to the mountain for the day. If you don't eat at your hotel, I suggest Lift Coffee Shop right near the base of the mountain for a hearty breakfast sandwich.

You will need an Epic Pass to ski, which you can order online prior to your trip. If you don't have your own gear, you can rent from any of the shops in the village and store it at the ski valet. Once you are dressed and ready to go, hit the gondola and spend the day shredding on Whistler Mountain! Lifts close around 4 pm, so even if you take advantage of the whole day, you have plenty of time to relax and get ready for dinner.

The best part of staying in Whistler Village is that everything is a 5-minute walk. When it's time for dinner, head to 21 Steps. A relaxed restaurant serving comfort food, your meal at 21 Steps will warm you right up. We got the fried goat cheese and kale caesar to start, followed by pork shoulder papardelle and wild salmon filet. Pro tip: Do not skip the basket of bread with housemade garlic butter!

After dinner, head to the Fairmont Chateau for a nightcap at their luxurious bar. If your hotel has a hot tub, I suggest ending the evening with a soak to loosen your muscles from the day!

Day 3: Ski Day 2

Get ready for another day on the slopes! After the first day, you probably know your favorite runs - I suggest heading to Blackcomb Mountain for a change! You can get from mountain to mountain via the gondola.

At 3 pm, it's time for APRES! You can't leave Whistler without participating in apres ski at the famous Longhorn Saloon. Make sure you have made a reservation well in advance as this place gets PACKED. We made ours right after we booked our flights since there was a group of 8 of us. This was one of the highlights of our trip. The vibes are amazing with everyone dancing on their tables, and you become friends with the people next to you by the time you leave.

Around 7, the party has died down and you will be ready for dinner. Head to Pizzeria Antico for pizza. I recommend the diavola and the quattro formaggi pizzas.

If you aren't ready for bed yet, there are plenty of bars to explore in the village. Check out Buffalo Bills Bar & Grill or Black's Pub.

The next day, head back to Vancouver. Take the shuttle back to YVR for your flight home. The shuttle operates regularly throughout the day, with departures from Whistler to Vancouver Airport from 4:30 AM until 6:30 PM during the winter season.
