Things to do in Ibiza

Ibiza with Kids - Things to do

Beach clubs

The thing to know about many Ibiza locations is that you want to have a reservation for beach beds and lunch. If you get there at around 11 am or noon, you will want to have a 2 pm lunch reservation.

Some favorites are Cala Bassa, a spot that’s popular with families due to its calm and shallow water where even tiny tots can safely wade. It also has multiple restaurants and a snack bar for food).

Chiringuito is a much more upscale option. Located on Ses Cavallet (a gorgeous beach), this is a less busy area that is fun to explore. It also has Little Chiringuito where younger guests can do crafts or play in a sunny spot.

Last but not least, Jockey Club in La Salinas has a super laid back vibe, and it feels a little bit classic and less like a commercialized Ibiza.

Shopping

Everyone visits Las Dalias, the famous hippy market that takes place every Saturday. Plan to spend some time wandering the stalls, which sell everything from clothing to jewelry and other crafts as well as food and drink. The other main market is Punta Arabi Hippy Market, which takes place on Wednesdays.

For traditional stores, wander the streets of Ibiza Town’s pedestrian village, an area which has cute local boutiques tucked between some of the more well-known chain shops like Zara.

Places to eat & drink in Ibiza

Ibiza with Kids - Places to eat & drink

It’s tough to narrow down the best restaurants on an island full of great eating, but these are a few of my favorites in various parts of the island.

The Fish Shack: No phone number, no road to reach it, but fantastic seafood in a stunning setting overlooking the sea if you can find it (at the end of the road past Talamanca). Cash only.

Balafia: Another hard one to find, and well worth the effort. This pretty restaurant set under lemon trees serves grilled meats and the best tomato salad known to mankind.

Raco Verd: This cute juice bar in San Josep is a great place for breakfast or detox smoothies and also has live music some nights.

Chiringuito Cala Xuclar: Rustic, simple and delicious on a tiny cove, the spot for jamon and grilled fish away from the crowds.

Day trips in Ibiza

Ibiza with Kids - Day trips

Visiting Formentera is a must for everyone, and it works on all budgets. If you want a really special day, charter a boat to swim, snorkel and explore the coast of this sandy island. For the budget-friendly approach, the public ferry is easy and takes anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on whether it’s the fast or normal ferry.

A note from Linda

JMy favorite spot for lunch on Formentera is Juan y Andrea, amazing seafood, perfect beach, super special!

Need to Know

Rental cars are a must. The island is large (easily 30 to 45 minutes to get from one part to another), but you’ll want to explore the villages and not have to rely on expensive taxis to get you around.

For families who want to balance the kid time with some club time, know that many of the clubs have “early hours” where you can roll in from the beach and be home by midnight. Ushuaia, with the big outdoor setting, is especially fun with the sun set and the planes flying in right over the dance floor.
