Things to do in Florence, Italy
Florence is an amazing city to just walk around and take in the historical atmosphere doned by its buildings and architecture! Walk over to the legendary Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Duomo and maybe even climb up to the top of the cathedral and/or the bell tower.
Take a walk through the Piazza delle Signore to see and possibly even tour the Palazzo Vecchio. It overlooks the copy of Michelangelo's David statue, the original you can find at the Accademia Gallery.
As you continue your tour of the city, make it over to the legendary Ponte Vecchio. Head on over to the Uffizi Gallery located just a few streets away to get your art fix and then to the Palazzo Pitti and Boboli Gardens to round up the day. And for a very special sunset overlooking the city skyline, take a seat at the Piazzale Michelangelo.
When you’re done nerding out at Florentine Renaissance history, indulge in Italy the right way by cheering for the Firenze team at the local stadium. Consider taking an art or photography class and don’t forget to enroll in a cooking class as well.
Finally, Florence is known for its exceptional leather. Head on over to Santa Croce leather school. Here you will score beautiful bags for sale and for admiration!
Day Trips
Head over to the Santa Maria Novella train/bus station to depart for day trips to Tuscan towns.
Fiesole, Siena, San Gimignano, Lucca or Pisa are lovely Tuscan towns to explore. My favorites were wine tasting and lunch at Castello del Trebbio and riding bikes around Lucca!
A note from Nicole
You can also go to Cinque Terre for the day, but I think staying a night or two in that area is better to fully enjoy and not feel rushed. Florence, Cinque Terre and Portofino for the trifecta.
Eat & drink in Florence, Italy
La Giostra: This restaurant located in the 16th century brick vault serves traditional Florentine T-bone steak.
Il Latini: Be ready to eat! This local and authentic Tuscan restaurant serves regional wines in a dining room hung with cured meats.
Golden View: Come out here for the stunning views of the Ponte Vecchio and live jazz.
Trattoria Zaza: Take a lunch break here after shopping for goods in the central market of San Lorenzo.
Yellow Bar: Delicious pizza and pasta trattoria.
