Curator’s statement

I’ve lived in the Boston area for ten years and even met my husband here. One of our favorite things to do together is trying new restaurants around the city. So I created this guide for those who want a low key, food-centric holiday in Boston and indulge in its fantastic culinary scene.

Things to do

Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts

You’ve come to Boston to eat, and that is what you’ll be doing with its beautiful architecture and design as a proper backdrop. Start with a food tour. The Bites of Boston is a sweet and savory South End tour on which you can explore the beautiful neighborhood while sampling food from local eateries and learning about the area. The North End Food Tour is a leisurely-paced walking tour that allows visitors to explore off-the-beaten-path establishments in Boston's historic North End neighborhood. Finally, the Boston Foodie Tours visits Boston's best restaurants on one of Boston Foodie's award-winning walking tours. Choose from Beacon Hill, the North End or Boston Public Market.

When you’d like to take a break from indulging in Boston’s culinary scene, make your way to Fenway Park. Whether you are a baseball fan or not, Fenway is worth a visit. You attend a game or take one of the tours of the historic park. The Boston Harbor Cruises also include brunch cruises, sunset or historic sight-seeing cruises. It’s a great way to see the city from the water. Castle Island is a valuable Boston monument as well! Tour Fort Port Independence for more history or just walk around it and take in the views. While you're at it, visit one of the beaches nearby – M Street and Carson Beach are the most popular. Park along the Charles River to take a walk down Charles River Esplanade. Enjoy the natural landscape, check out the Hatch Memorial Shell, or visit Charles River Canoe and Kayak to rent kayaks, canoes or paddleboards to take out on the river.

And for a final nightcap, Boston’s breweries are a true must! Trillium is my favorite brewery in Boston! Visit the taproom in Fort Point or if you're visiting during the summer months, enjoy your beer outside in the Garden at the Greenway location. The Harpoon serves the classic Boston IPA. Visit the Beer Hall in the Seaport District, and don't forget to try a pretzel! Finally, the Night Shift Brewing is a brewery that started in a kitchen in Somerville, MA, and evolved into one of the area's favorite breweries. Their new location at LoveJoy Wharf has a patio and is very close to TD Garden if you're catching a game or show during your visit.

Eat & drink

Oysters and cocktails in Boston, Massachusets

Jonquil’s Cafe & Bakery:  A unique spot for coffee, tea and 3D printed desserts on Newbury Street.

Saltie Girl:  Seafood restaurant. Reservations and the New York Style Smoked Fish are recommended!

Bistro Du Midi: Upscale, French restaurant with a view of the Public Gardens.

Mamma Maria - The best of the best in the North End! Focused on locally-grown and seasonally appropriate dishes.

Carmelina's: A low-key Italian spot serving comfort food with a twist. This was my favorite place on the North End before the Bruins games at TD Garden!

Mare Oyster Bar: Oysters and great cocktails with a cute little patio – not common in the North End!

MIDA: Don't skip this restaurant in the South End which also happens to be one of the best restaurants in Boston. Amazing food and amazing service.

Beehive: Cool spot with live music, a diverse menu and lots of bubbly!

Toro: My favorite Spanish tapas bar. They have classics and unique dishes that will make you want to try them all.

Lolita - Unique Mexican restaurant in Seaport (also in Back Bay). Very cool interior design that also features a patio. Excellent margaritas and you get a sweet surprise at the end of every meal!
