Joining Fora from Mexico—What to Expect

What it actually looks like to join and operate as a Fora advisor from Mexico, including admin setup, payment options, tax obligations, and what you can book.

Summary

  • Mexico-based advisors can join Fora and operate fully

  • You must have an RFC (Registro Federal de Contribuyentes) before receiving commission payouts

  • Tax obligations include ISR and IVA; Fora operates under Mexico's Digital Platforms Regime (Régimen de Plataformas Digitales) with the SAT

  • Commission is paid in MXN via Routable; USD payout is available if you have a US bank account

  • Hotels, tours, and all-inclusives are fully bookable; cruises for Mexico-based clients go through Fora's partner NAO

  • Fora's E&O insurance covers US-brought claims only—local liability coverage is not included

  • Subscription billing is available in MXN

Can you join?

Yes. Mexico is a fully supported market. Fora operates under Mexico's Digital Platforms Regime, which means there is a defined tax and payment structure in place—not a workaround. This is worth knowing upfront: there is more admin involved in joining from Mexico than from the US, but the structure exists and is established.

Admin before you start

RFC (registro federal de contribuyentes)

An RFC is required before Fora can process your commission payouts. If you don't have one, you'll need to obtain it from the SAT (Servicio de Administración Tributaria) before receiving your first commission payment.

The RFC is also required for Fora to issue your subscription billing invoice and for tax withholding documentation.

Tax regime registration

Fora recommends enrolling in the Régimen de Plataformas Digitales (Digital Platforms Regime) with the SAT. This is the tax regime specifically designed for income earned through platforms like Fora. It simplifies SAT compliance relative to other regimes and is the standard setup for Fora advisors in Mexico.

You may have multiple tax regimes simultaneously, but certain combinations are not permitted—consult a local tax professional or use Fora's recommended invoicing partner (Olé) for guidance on your specific situation.

Payment account setup

Commission is paid via Routable. To receive MXN payouts, you'll need:

  • A Mexican bank account in your name

  • Your RFC on file with Fora

  • CURP (Clave Única de Registro de Población) may also be required depending on your account setup

If you prefer USD, you can receive payouts to a US bank account if you have one. Fora cannot open a US account on your behalf.

Commission timelines are the same as all advisors: you are paid after your client travels and after the supplier pays Fora (typically 30–90 days post-travel). See When Do I Get Paid for the full timeline.

Tax obligations

What fora handles

Under the Digital Platforms Regime, Fora withholds ISR (Impuesto Sobre la Renta—income tax) and IVA (Impuesto al Valor Agregado—value-added tax) from your commission and remits them to the SAT on your behalf each month. Fora sends you a monthly PDF invoice documenting the commission gross, taxes withheld, and net payout.

What you handle

You are responsible for:

  • Filing your own tax returns with the SAT

  • Issuing a CFDI (Comprobante Fiscal Digital por Internet—Mexico's digital tax receipt) each month for the gross commission amount

  • Maintaining records per SAT requirements

  • Any obligations under additional regimes you may hold

Fora cannot provide tax advice. For setup guidance, Fora recommends Olé, a Mexico-based invoicing and tax compliance platform that specializes in advisors and freelancers operating under the Digital Platforms Regime.

Subscription invoice

Fora issues a subscription billing invoice that includes your RFC, the billing period, and amounts with IVA. This can be used for VAT credit purposes and, depending on your regime, for deductions.

What you can book

Hotels and resorts

Fully bookable globally. VIP programs (Virtuoso, Signature, Fora Reserve) apply. This is the most flexible and highest-volume category for most Mexico-based advisors.

Tours and all-inclusives

Fully bookable. Mexico-based all-inclusive providers (Cancún, Riviera Maya, Los Cabos, etc.) are accessible through supplier portals. Some Mexico all-inclusive packages have specific booking channels—Fora's training covers these.

Cruises (Mexico-based clients)

Mexico-based clients should be booked through NAO, Fora's cruise partner in Mexico. NAO supports most major cruise lines and handles bookings in MXN. For Mexico-based clients, going through NAO rather than a US cruise line portal is generally the correct channel—check the Fora Portal for current guidance on which lines are supported.

For non-Mexico clients, standard cruise booking channels apply.

Flights (commissionable)

Commissionable flight options are limited for most advisors. See the broader booking guidance in Can I book Flights for details.

E&O insurance

Fora's E&O insurance covers claims brought against Fora in the United States. If a client in Mexico brings a legal claim in Mexican courts, Fora's US-based E&O does not apply.

If you are serving Mexico-based clients and want liability coverage in Mexico, you will need to source local professional liability insurance independently. Consult a local insurance professional for options.

FAQs

Is Fora available to advisors everywhere in Mexico?
Yes. There are no state-level restrictions within Mexico. If you have a valid RFC and are not in an OFAC-restricted situation, you can join.

What if I don't have an RFC?
You can join and begin training, but you won't be able to receive commission payouts until your RFC is registered with Fora. Getting your RFC should be one of the first steps in your onboarding.

Do I have to use Olé?
No. Olé is recommended by Fora but not required. You can manage your CFDI obligations through a local accountant or another compliant method.

Can I charge clients in MXN?
Commissions are paid by suppliers in their listed currency (typically USD), then converted to MXN by Fora when paying you. You can quote clients in MXN for transparency, but the underlying booking will be in the supplier's currency.

What if I want to serve US-based clients from Mexico?
Fully supported. Cross-border client relationships are common. See Cross-Border Selling — Serving Clients in Other Countries for how bookings work across markets.

Will there be tax surprises?
The Digital Platforms Regime is designed to reduce surprises—taxes are withheld monthly and Fora provides documentation. The main risk is if your broader tax situation involves multiple regimes or if you're running other income streams. Consult a local professional to make sure your setup is clean before your first commission.

Is Fora growing in Mexico?
Yes. Mexico is an active and growing market. Fora has invested in Mexico-specific infrastructure (MXN payments, Spanish-language training, tax regime support) specifically because it's a priority region.
